The IRS announced they will not be sending bulk tax forms or instruction books to public libraries, post offices, or any public entity this year - claiming budget cuts. We were instructed to tell people to "go online" for tax forms or assistance. We can help patrons get copies of tax forms from the IRS web site (irs.gov) for free. However, we can not copy 100+ page instructions books. The IRS suggests the public order copies of instruction books and forms from their 800 hotline:
If anyone has a spare instruction book they can donate to us so that others can make copies of the tax tables or other information, we'd be most appreciative. We regret that the IRS has taken these measures, but have no control over this issue. Please do not get upset with Library staff over this. We're doing the best we can to deal with this last minute situation.
